ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY To recover the heat that would otherwise escape up the stack, a Ljungstrom air preheater incorporates three main components: 1. a central rotating structure – containing plate type heating element called the rotor 2. the static housing / casing that is divided into two, three or four sectors and 3. the flow containment sealing system. The rotor is the structural figure that houses and contains the multitude of individual heating element sheets or basketed heat transfer surfaces. It is the heating element sheets that does the actual heat channel work. The elements recover the heat that would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere out the stack and stores it within the thermal capacity of the metal. As the rotor rotates on its axis, the heated plates enter the sector where the colder fresh combustion air is traveling. The incoming fresh air cools the elements, and as it does the elements release the stored heat energy to the in-pouring combustion air. |
