Rotary air preheaters have two orientations — horizontal and vertical. Horizontal refers to the axis position – in horizontal the axis is horizontal and for a vertical air heaters the hub shaft and gas and air flow is vertical. The vertical rotor is usually supported on thrust bearings at the lower end, and kept vertical by a radial guide bearing at the upper end.
